The purpose of toddler music class with Ms. Sandie

Our next toddler class is starting soon (February 2016).  I thought I would let you know what's different about what we have to offer here at Keys & Strings Music Studio.

Our music class for toddlers (any child who is scooting/crawling/walking and not yet potty trained) is designed to use music as the tool for learning.

This sessions 10 week theme is 'Animal Serenade'.  Here is a typical class:

Welcome song!  Same each week. Why is it important?  We anticipate hearing our name sung.  We get to pick the activity that is done for our name.  We know that everyone will acknowledge us.  We might hide, but we are learning to expect our name to be sung.  We are learning to socialize!

Fine motor activity with age appropriate instruments.  Why are these activities important?  I have to wait my turn to get mine and my grownups instruments.  I have to learn how they make sounds.  I have to learn how to find the steady beat or the rhythm of the chant we are using.  Patience, Fine Motor Skills and Listening skills!

Free movement or dancing.   Gross Motor!  Jumping, swaying, stretching, marching.  Let's do all those with clapping too!  Multi tasking skills.

Imitating animal sounds.  Listening skills.  Vocalization skills!   Singing covers these skills too!

And don't forget that beautiful clock that we wait to listen for to signal start of class.  Anticipation, Patience and COUNTING!

This sessions class includes a book and a beautiful wooden animal shaped shaker.  To register today please visit our website www.keysandstringsmusicstudio.com and click the Believe in the Music Link, or for a direct link to our registration page click HERE

And don't forget, we offer private instruction on woodwinds, voice, piano and bowed strings too!

Summer Time is a Great Time to Start Piano Lessons

Got those Summertime Blues?  Why not turn them into music?  Summer is a great time to explore an instrument.  Piano is the 'gateway' to all other instruments.  Theory comprehension comes's easiest as it is literally black and white!  At Keys & Strings we combine lesson studies with fun popular arrangements, so the student always feels accomplishment in their new music exploration.  We have posted a previous blog on our educators recommendations, but wanted to provide our families with a way to explore other options.   Best Digital Keyboards for Beginner's

What recital means to me.........

Today's the big day. I never sleep well on 'Recital Eve'. Where'd the stands go, who took the pedal? We forgot to get the programs done? (Promise, they are done, and they are bigger than ever!) Recital to me is so many different things. I always have flashbacks to four years ago when I was so afraid it was my last recital with my 'kids'. Or the triumph of three years ago (I'm still here!). I remember Jay M's first recital, with his crouch like bow and huge smile. Jillian's realization that she did a GREAT job and then how it was even better for me when she invited me to her Christmas Pagent and she played the organ just a few short months later. Or the time Rachel stopped half way through....the entire time I was thinking that has the phrasing but doesn't sound exactly right............and she FLIPPED THE PAPER from top to bottom. Oh how we all laughed on that one. In my mind, there are 130 different stories just like this one. I have been blesse
